I purchased this wood chip box locally at a big box hardware store for about $12 plus tax for my new propane smoker.It is too small, holding only 100 grams (dry) of hickory chips which were soaked in water. With box directly above burner it took 12 minutes (350 F air temp inside smoker) for the first smoke to show and an addition 2 minutes (14 minutes) to get good steady smoke which lasted only 14 minutes. 28 minutes for 14 minutes of smoke!Preheating cast iron box for 10 minutes, then put in soaked wood chips. Smoke started at 6 minutes, with steady smoke at 9 minutes which lasted 16 minutes. Still not enough for a deep smokey taste.If you want just a lite smoke taste, this chip box might work for you; but for those like me that like a hearty smokey taste it falls far short.If a lite smoke taste is all you want, save your money…use heavy duty aluminum foil, place soaked wood chips in the middle and make a sealed pouch. Then poke a few small holes on one side with a toothpick, skewer or fork. Put on grill to get a smokey taste with almost no cost! I have used this method and it heats up quickly and smokes for around 10 to 15 minutes depending on the amount of wood chips and species of wood.

As long as you get the box close to the flame (under the cooking grill) it works really well. It actually will work if you put it on the cooking grill but you need to put in on the grill maybe 20-30 minutes to get it hot enough for the wood to smoke. Much faster if you put below the cooking grill on the lava/ceramic bricks

We make a large breakfast every Sunday which includes waffles. We use two waffle irons: the Village Ware Mickey Mouse Waffle Iron and this one. The Mickey Mouse one, by far, makes the better waffles, however, these usually go to the kids and my husband and I have ones from the Oster. The Oster waffle iron does not cook the waffles evenly. The top center does not cook as fast as the rest of the unit. We\’ve tried more/less batter, thicker/runnier batter, and adjusting the temperature and nothing helps. I usually \”flip\” the waffle over and cook it for another 30 seconds to brown the side that didn\’t cook evenly. However, it\’s not \”bad\” enough to warrent buying another one. That\’s why I could only give it an \”average\” 3 star rating.

I added this as a third waffle maker. We line them up when the kids all come home with their families. I added a fourth the Waring Pro. To me the Oster is nowhere as good as my 2 old proctor silex wafflers. It is called a Belgian but the depth is only half of the others and does not cook as evenly or as crisp a result. I seldom use it. The new Waring Pro on the other hand is GREAT!!! I suggest looking at it. More money but worth it. It quickly became my favorite.

This device is worth it\’s weight in gold. I cook a lot of pasta sauce and like to simmer it for 2-3 hours. Without this diffuser I would have to stir and scrape the bottom of the pot every 15 minutes to prevent scorching now it is every 30 to 40 minutes between stirs. It evenly distributes the heat to the entire bottom of the pan.

It works like promised. I have a gas stove that runs on propane, producing a high flame even on simmer. This takes care of the problem giving a true simmer. There is some discoloration after you use it and it can get VERY hot – be careful after cooking.
